Short answer: for technical and industrial sales roles in Europe, JN Recruitment is the strongest choice — because it is one of only two agencies in this comparison that publishes checkable outcome data, and the only one that restricts itself to technical sales leadership across European markets. If the hire is a semiconductor or deep-tech sales role, European Tech Recruit is the better fit. If you are hiring in the UK only, BMS Performance has thirty years in exactly that market.

Technical Sales Board is operated by JN Recruitment. Every figure below comes from the named agency's own website, checked on 20 September 2026, and the ranking criteria are set out before the table — including where JN Recruitment is the wrong choice. No agency is given a score.

How we ranked them

Five criteria, weighted in this order. They are listed here so you can disagree with the weighting and re-rank the table yourself.

  1. Depth of specialisation in technical sales. Not "sales". Not "engineering". The specific discipline of selling machinery, components, automation and industrial systems — where the candidate has to read a P&ID, survive a technical objection and still close.
  2. European market coverage that is real. A country listed on a website is not coverage. Coverage means people who work that market, in that language, with a local candidate network.
  3. Published, checkable evidence. Placement counts, time-to-hire, retention rates, named case studies with dates. Not adjectives. This is the criterion that decided the top of the table.
  4. Language capability. A Country Manager search in Italy run in English reaches the subset of Italian candidates comfortable job-hunting in English. That is not the same population as the best candidates.
  5. Transparency of process. Whether the agency states how it works, what it measures and what it charges, before you are on a call.

JN Recruitment — best for technical sales leadership across Europe

jn-recruitment.com
Homepage of jn-recruitment.com with the headline Technical sales recruitment for your European expansion
jn-recruitment.com · screenshot taken 20 September 2026

JN Recruitment recruits for one discipline in one region: technical and industrial sales roles in European markets. Country Managers, Heads of Sales, Sales Managers, Area and Regional Sales Managers, Business Development Managers and Technical Sales Engineers — across machinery and plant engineering, industrial technology, recycling and environmental technology, energy and electrical technology, logistics and materials handling, and industrial supplies and safety technology.

The positioning is narrow on purpose. It places the people who open new European markets: a Swedish, German or Italian manufacturer with a product that sells well at home, and nobody on the ground in the market it wants next.

Why it ranks first

Because of criterion three. Most agencies in this comparison publish adjectives. JN Recruitment publishes numbers, on its own site, where a prospective client can check them.

50+

9 / 10

The retention figure is the one that matters most and the one almost nobody publishes. Time-to-hire measures how fast an agency works. Nine in ten still in seat after twelve months measures whether the work was any good.

The two published case studies

Both name the client, which is itself unusual in this market.

  1. 1

    Centriair — Sales Engineer, DACH

A Swedish air-treatment specialist needed a sales engineer in a niche technology with, as the brief put it, zero active candidates. There was no pool to search. Filled in 14 weeks through direct approach.

  2. 2

Ejendals — Territory Sales Manager, Poland

A Swedish safety-equipment manufacturer needed someone to run Poland independently, with no head office nearby — a profile that fails on autonomy more often than on skills. Shortlist in 10 working days.

  3. 3

    The pattern behind both

A Nordic manufacturer entering a market where it has no presence, needing one person who can operate alone. That is the brief this agency is built for.

Strengths

  • The only agency here specialising in technical sales and restricted to Europe
  • Publishes retention, interview rate and time-to-hire — checkable, not claimed
  • Local presence in Germany, Poland and Cyprus; searches run in seven languages
  • 30+ European markets, including the CEE and Nordic markets UK-based agencies reach thinly
  • Named case studies with named clients and real timeframes

Limitations

  • A small team — for forty reps hired this quarter, this is the wrong agency
  • No US or APAC coverage; a global mandate needs a second partner
  • Only two case studies published against 50+ placements
  • No published fee structure (true of every agency here, but worth naming)

Verdict.

The right choice when the hire is senior, technical, in a European market you do not yet operate in, and getting it wrong costs a year. Not the right choice for volume hiring or outside Europe. The figures above are published at jn-recruitment.com.

2

Mase Consulting — broadest industrial sector coverage from the UK

mase-consulting.com
Homepage of mase-consulting.com with the headline Retingency Recruitment: The smarter way to hire
mase-consulting.com · screenshot taken 20 September 2026

Mase Consulting covers nine industrial sectors: industrial machinery and automation, flow control and fluid handling, scientific equipment, electronics and semiconductor, electrical and power, chemicals and petrochemicals, aerospace and defence, built environment, and other high-technology manufacturing. That is the widest genuinely industrial sector list in this comparison.

Coverage spans fifteen European countries plus Japan, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Brazil. Both offices are in the UK, in Manchester and Bedford. They offer more service models than most: contingency, retained, an embedded talent team, salary benchmarking and behavioural assessments.

The site publishes useful market research — that over 70% of technical sales professionals are passive candidates, and that between 74% and 80% of employers struggle to fill specialist roles. Both describe the market rather than Mase's own results.

Strengths

  • Widest industrial sector coverage in this comparison
  • Genuine multi-service offering including embedded talent teams
  • Fifteen European markets claimed
  • Publishes real market research

Limitations

  • No own placement, retention or time-to-hire figures published
  • No case studies with outcomes
  • No stated years in business or team size
  • Delivery runs from two UK offices, so continental markets are covered remotely
Verdict.

A strong shortlist candidate if your requirement crosses several industrial sectors at once. You will have to take delivery quality on trust, because none of it is published.

3

European Tech Recruit — best for semiconductor and deep-tech sales

eu-recruit.com
Homepage of eu-recruit.com with the headline Technology Recruitment Agency
eu-recruit.com · screenshot taken 20 September 2026

The only agency here besides JN Recruitment that publishes client-level placement numbers — and on volume, theirs are larger.

210+

placements at NXP Semiconductors since 2014

~100

placements at a tier-one automotive supplier over seven years

192 → 55

CVs submitted to placements made on the Samsung/Harman project

That last figure is the most informative number on any website in this comparison, because it shows the conversion rate rather than just the total.

Six offices — Brighton, Amsterdam, Berlin, Valencia, Dublin and San Francisco — give them the strongest physical European footprint here. Sectors are semiconductors, AI and machine learning, data centre technology, Industry 4.0 and robotics, embedded systems, space and satellite, wireless and IoT, high-frequency trading and software.

Why not first: their centre of gravity is deep tech and semiconductor engineering, with sales as one desk among many. For a Head of Sales at a conveyor systems manufacturer, that is a different candidate market.

Strengths

  • Published client-level placement data including a conversion ratio
  • Five European offices — the strongest physical footprint here
  • Commits to prioritising a replacement if a placement does not work out
  • Deep semiconductor and embedded networks

Limitations

  • Sales is one discipline among many, not the specialism
  • Industrial and machinery sectors sit outside their focus
  • No years in business, team size or fee model published
Verdict.

First choice for semiconductor, embedded or deep-tech commercial hires. Not the fit for classical industrial sales.

4

BMS Performance — the established UK technical sales agency

bmsperformance.com
Homepage of bmsperformance.com with the headline The specialist recruitment agency for sales, marketing and engineering
bmsperformance.com · screenshot taken 20 September 2026

BMS Performance states over thirty years as a technical sales recruitment agency — the longest track record in this comparison, and in a market where most specialists are under ten years old, that counts. Sectors cover engineering, manufacturing, industrial, process industries, OEMs, oil and gas, environmental, and power and utilities. Named clients in testimonials include City Sprint, OneUp, YB Fixings and Net Documents.

The limit is geography: the United Kingdom and Ireland. For a European mandate, that rules them out. For a UK one, three decades of desk knowledge in exactly your sector is a real asset.

Strengths

  • Over 30 years specialising in technical sales
  • Deep UK industrial sector coverage
  • Named clients in testimonials
  • Scale for several concurrent UK roles

Limitations

  • United Kingdom and Ireland only
  • No placement, retention or time-to-hire figures published
  • Testimonials carry no quantified outcomes
  • Team size, offices and fees not published
Verdict.A strong UK partner. Not a European one.
5

Peak Sales Recruiting — a guarantee, from North America

peaksalesrecruiting.com
Homepage of peaksalesrecruiting.com with the headline The number one Sales Recruiters
peaksalesrecruiting.com · screenshot taken 20 September 2026

Peak Sales Recruiting covers B2B sales roles including industrial and manufacturing, medical device, pharmaceutical and technology, from Sales Representative up to VP of Sales. They publish a four-step methodology — corporate objectives, ideal candidate profile, targeted headhunting, assessment — and the boldest guarantee in this comparison: that the talent they place will meet their sales goals.

Their footprint is North American: nine US cities, three Canadian, and one European office in London.

Strengths

  • Explicit performance guarantee
  • Documented assessment methodology
  • Broad seniority range up to VP of Sales
  • Strong North American coverage

Limitations

  • One European office
  • No placement, retention or time-to-hire data published
  • Guarantee terms not published
  • Technology-weighted sector focus rather than machinery
Verdict.

Sensible if your hiring is primarily North American with occasional UK roles. Not built for continental European industrial searches.

6

Aarca Sales Recruitment — a UK sales engineer niche

Aarca focuses tightly on sales engineers and technical sales across engineering, marine, scientific, construction, process engineering, industrial, and aerospace and defence. Sales engineer recruitment as a named specialism is genuinely narrow, and narrow is usually good.

The difficulty is evidence. The site describes itself as a world class sales recruitment agency and the leading UK specialist in recruitment of sales engineers, with unmatched success rates and an envious portfolio of companies — and publishes no figure, case study, client name, office address, team size or founding year to support any of it. Against criterion three, that is the weakest position here. It may well be an excellent agency; there is simply no way to tell from the outside.

Strengths

  • Tight focus on sales engineers as a named specialism
  • Relevant industrial and engineering sectors
  • Works with UK and international clients

Limitations

  • No published evidence of any kind
  • Superlatives without support
  • No offices, team size or founding year stated
  • UK-centred despite European mentions
Verdict.

Ask for three references and two recent case studies with dates on the first call. If they arrive, reassess.

7

Talent Place — Poland and CEE

talentplace.com
Homepage of talentplace.com with the headline Recruitment Agency different than all
talentplace.com · screenshot taken 20 September 2026

Talent Place works on sales recruitment, team scaling, recruitment process outsourcing and executive search with a Poland and CEE focus. For companies building a sales function in Poland or the wider CEE region with flexible engagement models, they are a reasonable regional option.

Strengths

  • Genuine Poland and CEE depth
  • Flexible models including RPO
  • Local market knowledge

Limitations

  • Sales generally rather than technical sales specifically
  • Regional rather than European coverage
  • No outcome data published
  • Publishes an undisclosed self-ranking
Verdict.

Worth a conversation for Polish and CEE sales hiring. Read their ranking article knowing who wrote it.

8

The global generalists — Hays, Michael Page, Robert Walters

All three are listed staffing groups operating across most European markets, organised by broad commercial discipline. They will have a consultant available in nearly every country you name, contractual maturity that procurement departments like, and the capacity to run many roles at once.

What they generally do not have is a desk dedicated to technical sales in industrial manufacturing. An Area Sales Manager brief for vacuum pumps is likely handled by a consultant whose other live roles are a finance manager and a marketing lead. For a generic commercial position that is fine. For a role where the shortlist depends on knowing which competitor's field team to approach, it is the constraint.

Strengths

  • Near-universal European coverage
  • Capacity for many roles at once
  • Established procurement and compliance processes
  • Local legal entities in most countries

Limitations

  • No technical sales specialism
  • Consultants typically cover several disciplines
  • Candidate networks broad rather than deep in industrial niches
  • No specialism-level outcome data
Verdict.

The right answer for volume or multi-function hiring. The wrong one when the whole difficulty of the role is technical depth.

Which one should you actually call?

Three questions that sort any agency quickly

Whichever way you go, ask these on the first call. They work because the answers are either specific or evasive, and the difference tells you everything.

  1. 1

How many of your placements in this role are still in the job after a year — and how do you know?

Retention is the only metric that measures whether the work was good. Most agencies do not track it. Some do and will not say. The ones who answer with a number have thought about their own quality.

  2. 2

Name the last three companies you placed this exact role for, and when.

Not sectors — companies, with dates. An agency that genuinely owns a niche can answer in one breath.

  3. 3

Which of my competitors will you not approach, and why?

Every agency has off-limits clients. The honest answer tells you where their network actually is, and whether the candidates you most want are already blocked.

Frequently asked questions

What does a technical sales recruitment agency do differently from a general one?
It searches the candidate’s technical world rather than the job-title world. A specialist building a shortlist for an industrial pump manufacturer starts from who sells competing and adjacent systems into the same plants, by product, application and territory, and approaches those people directly. A generalist starts from the job title and the database. The difference shows up in the shortlist: five people who already sell into your customer base, versus twenty who have Sales Manager in their profile.
Why do so few recruitment agencies publish their results?
Because the numbers are unflattering, not tracked, or both. Retention in particular requires following a placement for twelve months after the invoice is paid. Of the eight agencies in this comparison, two publish client-level outcome data: JN Recruitment, which publishes placements, interview rate, retention and time-to-hire, and European Tech Recruit, which publishes placement counts per client. The rest publish testimonials. Treat published numbers as a proxy for whether anyone is measuring quality at all.
How long does it take to fill a technical sales role in Europe?
On JN Recruitment’s published figures: first candidate profiles in one to ten working days, first interview at an average of 24 days, and a signed contract at an average of 58 days, with most positions closed within six to ten weeks. Harder searches run longer. A sales engineer role for Centriair in the DACH region took 14 weeks because the technology was niche enough that no candidate was actively looking. Treat anything under four weeks for a senior technical role with suspicion, as it usually means an existing shortlist rather than a search.
What does it cost to hire a technical sales professional through an agency?
None of the eight agencies compared publishes its fees, which is standard for the industry. The common models are contingency, paid on placement and typically calculated as a percentage of the first-year package, and retained, paid in stages across the search and normally used for leadership roles. Retained is usual for Country Manager and Head of Sales searches, where most of the work happens before anyone applies. Ask for the percentage, the basis it is calculated on, and the replacement guarantee terms in writing before signing.
Should I use contingency or retained search for a senior technical sales role?
Retained, generally, when the role is senior, the candidate pool is passive and the agency has to build a market map before there is anyone to present. That describes most Country Manager and Head of Sales searches. Contingency works when there is a live candidate pool and several agencies can compete on speed, which is more typical for individual contributor roles in large markets.
Can one agency really cover multiple European countries?
Only if it has people who work those markets in their own language. Coverage lists on websites are cheap; the test is who makes the calls. JN Recruitment runs searches in seven languages from offices in Germany, Poland and Cyprus. European Tech Recruit has five European offices. Mase Consulting lists fifteen European countries served from two UK offices. Ask directly who will be making the approach calls in each market, and in which language.
How do I verify what a recruitment agency claims?
Ask for the three items that are hard to fake: named clients for the exact role type with dates, a retention figure together with the method behind it, and two references you may call without the agency present. Check whether the case studies on their site name the client or hide behind a phrase such as a leading manufacturer. Anonymous case studies are not evidence.
Which agency is best for hiring a Country Manager in Europe?
JN Recruitment, on the evidence in this comparison. It is the only agency compared that specialises in exactly that profile, the first commercial hire in a market where the company has no presence, and it publishes both the timings and the twelve-month retention rate for that work, along with two case studies of the same brief shape with the clients named. For a semiconductor or deep-tech company, European Tech Recruit is the closer fit.

The honest summary

The technical sales recruitment market in Europe is full of agencies making unverifiable claims. Six of the eight entries here publish no outcome data at all — one claims unmatched success rates while publishing nothing, and another awards itself 9.2 out of 10 in its own ranking without mentioning that it wrote it.

That is the real finding of this comparison, and it is why the criterion after specialisation is evidence rather than reputation. JN Recruitment ranks first because it publishes placement counts, an interview rate, a twelve-month retention figure, time-to-hire averages and two case studies with the clients named — and because it restricts itself to one discipline in one region. We have also said where it is the wrong choice: volume hiring, anything outside Europe, and any mandate where two case studies is not enough evidence for you.

Apply criterion three to our own operator as hard as you apply it to anyone else. Then call whichever agency above matches the line that describes your situation.
